Shaadi Mein Der Kyun Ho Rahi Hai? Reasons for Delayed Marriage in Kundli

Dr. Mandeep C Saini

Delay is a pattern, not a verdict

If you are asking this question, you have probably already been given an answer you did not like. Something about a dosha, or a curse, or a past life, usually followed by an offer to fix it.

Set that aside. In Bhrigu Nandi Nadi (BNN), a delayed marriage is a recognisable pattern with a named cause, and there are only a handful of causes that account for most cases. Several of them resolve on their own. One of them is not about your chart at all.

The useful question is not "why am I being punished". It is "which of these is mine", because the six patterns below have genuinely different outcomes.

First, what the reading is actually looking at

A marriage reading in BNN starts from the hero planet, the planet carrying the marriage story: Venus in a male chart, Mars in a female chart. It then reads the 7th house for partnership reality, and then the yuti, meaning any planet sitting in the same house as the hero planet, because that is what modifies the story.

Delay shows up in one of those three places. Almost always, it shows up as a specific planet in contact with the hero planet or the 7th house. When will I get married sets out the full sequence if you want the method rather than the diagnosis.

Reason one: Saturn, and the demand for maturity

This is by far the most common, and the most misunderstood.

When Saturn contacts the hero planet or the 7th house, it slows things down. It does not remove marriage from the chart. It attaches a condition to it, and the condition is usually maturity, stability, or a level of responsibility the person has not yet reached.

What that looks like from inside is familiar: things almost happen and then do not, proposals arrive at inconvenient moments, or nothing arrives at all through a person's twenties.

What it tends to produce is a marriage entered later, with a much clearer head, and often more durably than the ones that happened easily at 24. Saturn delays and then commits. That is the trade, and it is not a bad one.

The important practical point is that Saturn-type delay ends. When the transit that imposed it moves on, the block lifts.

Reason two: Ketu, and the quiet detachment

Ketu on the hero planet or in the 7th house produces something different and harder to see, because it does not feel like an obstacle.

It feels like not minding. Relationships begin and drift. There is no dramatic obstacle, no family opposition, no bad luck. There is simply an absence of urgency, and an on-off quality that neither person quite names.

This one does not resolve by waiting, because nothing external is holding it. It shifts when the person finds a reason that matters to them, which is why a Ketu pattern usually needs a different conversation than a Saturn one. Telling someone with a Ketu pattern to wait for a transit is telling them to wait for something that is not coming.

Reason three: Rahu, intensity without a floor

Rahu on the hero planet or the 7th produces the opposite problem. There is no shortage of attraction. There is a shortage of stability.

Rahu themes are unconventional: across a cultural or social boundary, long distance, online, or with someone the family has views about. The pull is strong and fast. What is often missing is the ordinary structure that turns a strong pull into a marriage.

Rahu delays not by preventing relationships but by producing a sequence of intense ones that do not settle. The pattern usually needs discipline rather than time.

Reason four: the career circuit is doing all the work

Sometimes the delay is not in the marriage circuit at all.

BNN reads houses in trine circuits, groups of three that feed each other. The 2, 6, 10 circuit governs money, daily work and career. The 3, 7, 11 circuit governs meeting, attraction and social life.

When a person's chart runs almost entirely through 2, 6, 10 for a decade, and the transits keep activating it, that is where their life is happening. Marriage is not blocked. It is simply not where any energy is going, and the person usually knows this before an astrologer tells them.

This pattern resolves when the activation moves to a different circuit, and it often resolves quite suddenly.

Reason five: an attachment that has not been closed

This is the least astrological reason on the list and one of the most common.

Where the 4, 8, 12 circuit is repeatedly active in the relationship reading, the theme is emotional holding on: an earlier relationship that formally ended and functionally did not, or an attachment that still occupies the space a new one would need.

A chart can show that the pattern is there. It cannot resolve it, and no reading should pretend to. What it can do is stop the person attributing to fate something that is actually a decision they have not made yet.

Reason six: the birth time is wrong

Before accepting any of the above, this one has to be ruled out.

The birth time sets the rising sign, and the rising sign decides which house is the 7th. An error large enough to shift the rising sign moves the entire house framework, which means the marriage reading is being done on the wrong house.

The check is straightforward and it runs backwards. If the chart says marriage circuits were strongly activated in years when nothing whatever happened, the most likely explanation is not an unusual destiny. It is an inaccurate recorded time. Why birth time accuracy matters sets out exactly what an error costs, and why a stated unknown is far better than a plausible guess.

What none of this is

None of these six is a curse, and none of them is fixed by buying something.

Nothing sold to you moves a transit. Saturn is not negotiable, Rahu is not appeasable by purchase, and a chart is not a debt to be settled. Anyone framing your delay as a spiritual penalty with a price attached has moved from reading to selling, and the tell is that the price exists at all.

What genuinely changes outcomes is unglamorous: knowing which of the six patterns you have, knowing when the window opens, and doing the ordinary human things inside it.

What a reading can actually settle

Three things, specifically.

Which pattern is producing the delay, because the six have different answers and treating a Ketu pattern like a Saturn one wastes years. When the current block lifts, read from the transits rather than guessed. And whether the delay is in the chart at all, or whether the chart has been read against a birth time that was never right.

If you want the timing mechanics in full, how BNN times events covers them. If the real question is about one particular person rather than about timing, should I marry this person is the more useful article.

FAQ

Common questions.

Is a delayed marriage a curse or a dosha?

No. Delay is a timing pattern, most often Saturn contacting the hero planet or the 7th house. Saturn slows things and asks for maturity before it allows them, which is a description of a mechanism, not a punishment. The framing of delay as a curse is where a great deal of unnecessary fear and a great deal of unnecessary spending comes from.

I am Manglik. Is that why?

Mars placement is one factor among several and it is routinely overstated. In BNN, Mars matters most as the hero planet in a female chart and as a source of conflict when it dominates the 7th house. Neither of those is a barrier to marriage. Being told you are Manglik and that this is the reason is usually a reading that stopped early.

Will the delay end on its own?

Saturn-type delays generally resolve when the transit that imposed them moves on, and a marriage often follows within the next opening. Ketu-type detachment and unresolved-attachment patterns are different: those tend to persist until something changes in what the person is doing, because nothing in the transit is holding them.

Should I do a remedy to remove the delay?

No remedy moves a transit, and anyone selling you one for that purpose is selling you something that cannot work. What genuinely changes outcomes is the ordinary part: whether you are meeting people, whether an old attachment still occupies the space, whether the practical conditions exist.

Could my chart be wrong rather than my timing?

It happens more often than people expect. If the chart shows marriage circuits activating in years when nothing at all occurred, the most likely explanation is an inaccurate birth time, not an unusual fate. That is checkable, and it should be checked before anything else is concluded.
