The honest answer, before the method
A birth chart can tell you the periods in your life when marriage becomes structurally likely. It cannot tell you the date.
That distinction is the whole article, so it is worth being blunt about it early. If you have been told a specific day, or a specific month several years out, you were told something the method does not support. What an honest reading gives you is a window, usually a stretch of several months, in which the part of your chart that governs partnership is switched on.
Most people find that more useful than a date, once they have it. A date is something you wait for. A window is something you can plan around.
Where a BNN reading actually starts
Almost every popular article on this subject begins with the 7th house. In Bhrigu Nandi Nadi (BNN) that is the second step, not the first.
The reading starts from the hero planet: the single planet that carries the marriage story in your chart. In a male chart that planet is Venus. In a female chart it is Mars.
The hero planet is not the marriage itself. It describes what you are drawn towards and how you behave inside a relationship. Where it sits, and what sits with it, sets the shape of the whole story before any house is considered.
This is why two people with an identical 7th house can have completely different marriages. The 7th house is the room. The hero planet is the person walking into it.
What the 7th house adds
Once the hero planet is placed, the 7th house is read for partnership reality: the environment of the marriage, and the behaviour patterns the partner brings.
The planets sitting in the 7th are read as behaviour, not as verdicts:
- Sun: a partner with strong self-regard. Respect matters, and power can become an issue.
- Moon: emotionally present, nurturing, and changeable with mood.
- Mars: energy and passion, with a real capacity for conflict.
- Mercury: talkative. Communication is the glue, and it can be immature.
- Jupiter: steadying. Wise counsel, family support, stability increases.
- Venus: romantic and comfortable, with a risk of indulgence.
- Saturn: delay, seriousness, sometimes an age gap. The marriage becomes duty.
- Rahu: unconventional. Foreign, online, or across a social boundary. Intense, and unstable without discipline.
- Ketu: detachment. Present in body, absent in attention, unless a shared purpose exists.
None of those is good or bad on its own. They describe what the marriage will actually feel like from inside.
The bonds that modify everything
The next step is the one most readings skip, and it is where the accuracy comes from.
A yuti is a conjunction: two or more planets sitting together in the same house. When a planet forms a yuti with your hero planet, it modifies the entire marriage story. In plain terms, it tells you what you attract.
- With Moon: attachment runs on feeling. Bonding is mood-led and sensitive.
- With Mercury: the relationship is built on talk. Messaging, conversation, and a tendency to overthink.
- With Jupiter: elders and mentors are involved. Marriage often arrives through family or guidance, and stability is higher.
- With Saturn: delay, and then serious commitment. Duty-shaped. Cold if fear is running it.
- With Sun: pride enters the relationship. Respect is non-negotiable, and power struggles are possible.
- With Rahu: unconventional attraction. Foreign or cross-cultural themes, strong early pull, and instability unless discipline holds it.
- With Ketu: detachment and on-off patterns, unless there is a clear shared purpose.
A reading that says only "your 7th house has Saturn" has told you a fraction of the story. A reading that names the hero planet, its house, and its yuti has told you most of it.
Confirmation, so it is not a guess
A single indication is not a prediction. In BNN the same message has to repeat across a trine circuit, which is a group of three houses that feed each other.
Four circuits matter here:
- 3, 7, 11: meeting, attraction, social circle, online connection, love turning into support.
- 1, 5, 9: romance, intelligence, and good fortune in relationship.
- 2, 6, 10: family duty, practical workload, and the friction those create.
- 4, 8, 12: emotional security, sudden breaks, and deep change.
If the hero planet points toward a stable family marriage and the 3, 7, 11 circuit repeats meeting and support, the reading becomes confident. If the 4, 8, 12 circuit keeps repeating breaks, that is a different conversation, and an honest reader has it with you.
What actually switches the timing on
Everything so far describes a structure that has been in your chart since birth. Structure alone does not produce an event. Something has to activate it.
That activation is called yatra, the journey of a planet through your chart. Three slow movers do the work: Jupiter, Saturn, and the lunar nodes Rahu and Ketu. They are slow enough that when one of them contacts your marriage circuit, the contact lasts long enough for an event to organise itself around it.
Jupiter tends to open. Saturn tends to formalise and to delay before it does. Rahu and Ketu tend to bring the unexpected route.
There is one more layer. Inside a yuti, the planet at the lower degree acts earlier and the one at the higher degree acts later. That is what turns a broad activation into a sequence, and it is the difference between "sometime in the next few years" and "the earlier half of this window, then a second opening after it".

Why a window and not a date
Put the two halves together and the reason becomes obvious.
The chain describes a capacity. The activation describes a period when that capacity is engaged. Neither of them encodes the decisions you make inside that period, and those decisions substantially shape what happens.
Two people can have the same window. One spends it meeting people. One spends it waiting for a date they were given. The chart was identical.
That is also why the most reliable check on any timing reading is backwards, not forwards. If a chart says a circuit was active in a particular past year and your life shows a corresponding change in that year, the reading has a foothold. Where the activations and your history do not line up at all, the recorded birth time is usually wrong, which is worth discovering before anything is said about your future. What to do with a window once you have one
A window is only worth having if it changes something. In practice it does three things.
It tells you when to put yourself in the way of the outcome, rather than waiting passively through the one period most likely to produce it. It tells you what is likely to get in the way, because the yuti on your hero planet names the obstacle specifically rather than generically. And it tells you what kind of partnership your chart actually supports, which is useful mostly because it stops you trying to force one it does not.
If the question you arrived with was "when", the chart can answer it as a period.
